Day 2 – Guided Tour of Grand Stand w/lunch – Brookgreen Gardens – Pawleys Island Hammock Shops
After breakfast, meet your local guide and depart on a guided tour of the Grand Stand. The Myrtle Beach area is known locally as the “Grand Strand” and includes 60 miles of pristine Atlantic coastline and is comprised of 14 communities and two counties. The area is filled with amazing sites and local history. This tour will take you to the south end of the Grand Stand to Murrells Inlet.
Once you arrive in Murrells Inlet, enjoy lunch at a local restaurant. Then head to Brookgreen Gardens for an afternoon tour. This National Landmark is an outstanding 9,000+-acre outdoor sculpture and botanical garden. Brookgreen Gardens contains the largest and most comprehensive collection of American figurative sculpture in the country, displayed in a stunning garden setting.
The afternoon will also include a visit to the Pawleys Island Hammock Shops. The Pawleys Island Hammocks story goes back to Carolina Low Country more than 130 years ago. Plus, see how the hammocks are handwoven. There will also be time to browse the over 25 shops in the village.
Tonight, enjoy dinner at a Pawleys Island restaurant before returning to your hotel for the evening. (B,L, D)
Day 3 – Full Day African American History Tour – Sandy Island w/lunch – Hobcaw Barony Tour – Choice or Rice Museum or Gullah Museum
Today will feature a full day of African American History touring with a local guide. The Grand Strand has been greatly influenced by its African American heritage and roots that date back to the 1700s – and is still shaping the region today as a major tourism destination. From what we eat to how we speak in the present day, so much of that can be traced back to the African History in the region. There are several locations beyond the beach that visitors can experience that tell this story.
Start today on Sandy Island and take a journey back in time. This hidden jewel on South Carolina’s Hammock Coast is only accessible by boat. Sandy Island is the last true undeveloped island on the east coast of South Carolina. Residents still travel to and from the island by boat, as they have for generations.
Enjoy a guided tour that will feature an in-depth history of the Gullah people of Sandy Island. Tour will include visits to the old Mt. Rena cemetery, Sandy Island’s schoolhouse, its volunteer fire department, its villages, as well as a stop at Pyatt’s General store. Lunch will be included today with your tour. Experience a taste of Sandy Island cuisine.
Then head to Georgetown this afternoon for a tour of Hobcaw Barony. This tour highlights Hobcaw Barony’s 16,000 acres of history, ecology and research. A privately owned research reserve, the property represents every environment and century of the Lowcountry. The bus stops for a tour inside Bernard Baruch’s c.1930 home that played host to politicians, generals and newspapermen, as well as Winston Churchill and President Franklin Roosevelt.
In addition to Hobcaw House, your tour will include a drive by the home and stables of Bellefield Plantation, the home of Mr. Baruch’s oldest daughter Belle Baruch who owned all the property by 1956, as well as a stop in one of four slave villages – settlements on Hobcaw Barony that were constructed by enslaved people then inhabited by them and their descendants well into the 20th century.
The afternoon will also include your choice of visiting either the Rice Museum or the Gullah Museum.
The Rice Museum, located in historical downtown Georgetown, houses a collection of dioramas, maps, paintings, and artifacts showing the history of rice cultivation in Georgetown County.
The Gullah Museum celebrates Gullah, a language and culture created by the Africans brought to the Sea Islands of South Carolina in Colonial times. The museum highlights contributions of the Gullah people to the development and the undeniable success of the Carolina rice culture.
Dinner is included this evening at a restaurant in either Georgetown or Pawleys Island. Return to your hotel for the evening. (B,L,D)

Next, enjoy free time and lunch on your own at Market Commons. Explore a wide selection of shops, restaurants, and entertainment in an inviting atmosphere with lovely landscaping, music-filled streets, ample seating areas, fountains, and a playground.
The afternoon features more free time for the Myrtle Beach Boardwalk. The first section is all about visitors enjoying the serene, natural environment, while the second is all about high intensity fun with beachfront shops, restaurants and the iconic SkyWheel Myrtle Beach standing 187 feet tall.
