Itinerary
Day 1 – Myrtle Beach, SC
Arrive today in beautiful Myrtle Beach, SC. Check into your oceanfront hotel for a four-night stay and dinner on your own this evening.
Day 2 – Saltwater Marsh Eco Tour – Murrells Inlet MarshWalk Tour – Brookgreen Gardens – Atalaya Castle
Enjoy a day in Murrells Inlet where you start with a Saltwater March Eco Tour. Explore Murrells Inlet and its beautiful saltwater marsh estuary. Enjoy the sight and sounds as you cruise the tranquil waters, bird watching and observing the underwater sea life with a naturalist. This tour will also include a live demonstration that includes local crabs and pulling a sample dredge from the bottom of the creek bed directly into the touch tank for all to observe.
The shelling cruise also includes a “walkabout” as the captain positions the boat on a local beach so you can disembark onto the beach and dune area searching for local treasures and shells.
Following the cruise enjoy lunch on own along the MarshWalk. Savor Lowcountry cuisine, fresh seafood, the finest steaks, and a range of mouthwatering delicacies prepared by award-winning chefs, plus some of the most spectacular waterfront dining along South Carolina’s Hammock Coast and the Grand Strand.
While at the MarshWalk, enjoy a guided walking tour. This tour will include local history, tales of area ghosts, and legends of the Seafood Capital of South Carolina.
Then enjoy a guided tour of serene Brookgreen Gardens, part of a 6000-acre estate that was once four rice plantations. More than 500 works of American sculptors are on display in the gardens, as well as wildlife and historical exhibits of South Carolina animals and artifacts. Discover the history of Brookgreen Gardens and the collection of Anna Hyatt Huntington and additional sculptors.
Included with your visit to Brookgreen Gardens is a Creek Excursion that will allow you to cruise the creeks on a 48-foot pontoon boat. You will pass historic rice fields, now home to alligators, waterfowl, and osprey as an interpreter helps you see the distinctive landscape of the rice plantations and understand the role of enslaved Africans in the cultivation of the rice crop and the shaping of the history of the Lowcountry.
The afternoon also features visit to Atalaya Castle located at Huntington Beach State Park. This expansive structure once served at the winter home for the founders of Brookgreen Gardens – Archer and Anna Huntington. The original estate was designed by the couple with their own unique touches and featured 30 rooms with a Spanish-inspired design. Now you can enter the state park and walk through what remains of this stunning property along with photographs and a rich, detailed history of the home and all of the changes its seen.
This evening, enjoy dinner at a local restaurant. (B,D)
Day 3 – Morning at Tanger Outlets – Barefoot Queen Lunch Cruise – Duplin Winery Tasting – Greg Rowles Theatre
After breakfast, enjoy shopping at Tanger Outlets. Browse nation’s leading designer and brand name stores with the widest selection of today’s favorite fashion trends. With more than over 78 brand name outlet stores, you’re sure to find something for everyone!
The afternoon includes a sightseeing cruise on the Barefoot Queen Riverboat along the Intracoastal Waterway. While aboard this 70 foot authentic wooden riverboat with 2 cooled/heated interior decks and three outdoor deck spaces, you will be able to enjoy the scenery, the history of the area and the wonderful fresh air. A boxed lunch will be included with your cruise.
Also included today is a Wine Tasting at the Duplin Winery. Duplin are the makers of America’s favorite Muscadine wine. The tasting allows you to sample up to 10 wines on the tasting sheet and enjoy delicious gourmet crackers and dip. Plus, you get to keep your Duplin wine glass and have a serving of wine afterwards from the tasting sheet.
Dinner is included this evening at a local restaurant followed by a show at the Greg Rowles Legacy Theatre. Tonight, you’ll experience a two-act variety show with a blend of so many genres from country, to crooners, to classic rock, beach music and sing-along favorites. Greg is joined on stage by legendary Myrtle Beach entertainers Chris and Jason Cox, as well as Cyndi Wheeler for The Legacy Show. Kenny Duncan will lead the Legacy Band of incomparable musicians through a cavalcade of live music that will transport you to a place and time and even some fun comedy and musical surprises along the way. Added touch of fun… you, the audience, get the opportunity to request songs for each and every show, so no two shows will ever be the same! (B,L,D)
Day 4 – Scavenger Hunt at Ripley’s Aquarium – Broadway at the Beach – Myrtle Beach History Tour – Free Time for Beach – Carolina Opry
This morning, visit Ripley’s Aquarium and see thousands of intricately colored fishes from the tropical islands, Pacific Giant Octopus, living corals, green sea turtles, sharks, penguins and more. Plus, you will enjoy a fun Scavenger Hunt while at the Aquarium.
Then enjoy time for shopping and lunch on own at Broadway at the Beach. Stroll around the ever- exciting world of Broadway at the Beach and discover shopping treasures all over the 350 acre property. Enjoy one-of-a-kind shops and boutiques along with a host of nationally recognized shopping names. Whether you’re in the mood for seafood, burgers, milkshakes, or sushi, there are more than 20 restaurants at Broadway at the Beach set to satisfy your appetite.
The afternoon will feature a guided Myrtle Beach Tour. Hear the story of Myrtle Beach’s coming of age in the mid-20th century to present day, the movies that were made or premiered there, and the role that Myrtle Beach played in music history. Stops include the new Historic District and a Green Book listing, The Fitzgerald Motel at Charlie’s Place Historic Site.
Retuning to the hotel, enjoy free time for the beach before dinner.
End the day with a show at the Carolina Opry. The award-winning Carolina Opry blends two hours of high-energy music, comedy and dance in a luxurious theater complete with state-of-the-art lighting, sound and special effects. This show is continually updated with new music and comedy with everything from rock ‘n roll, Broadway and country to classic hits, pop melodies and gospel. (B,D)
